The level crossing near Merinda Park Station has gone and we’ve added extra lanes and traffic lights on Thompsons Road to improve safety and travel times.
Frankston-Dandenong Road intersection upgrade
The Frankston-Dandenong Road intersection is now open, four months earlier than planned!
We’ve worked around the clock to:
- dig up and remove soil to make way for the wider intersection
- install new drainage
- remove the roundabout and level the ground for the new intersection layout
- build the new centre medians on each approach to the intersection
- lay new road surface through the intersection
- install the new permanent traffic lights.
Minor works to complete
The new intersection is now open to traffic.
We still need to complete works to protect and relocate a gas line on the eastern side of Frankston-Dandenong Road, just south of the Thompsons Road intersection. While we work, the merge from three lanes to two will occur closer to the intersection. See the map below for more information.
You might also see our crews on the road as we connect the shared walking and cycling paths on Thompsons Road and finish off the landscaping. We may need to temporarily close lanes outside of peak hours to provide access to construction vehicles. There should be little impact to your access or commute.
While we work, the speed limit will be reduced to 60km/h Frankston-Dandenong and Thompsons roads through the intersection.
We expect to complete the shared walking and cycling paths by mid-August and the gas works by Spring 2020. See below for details.
