Overview

Put your best foot forward. Equip your team with the technical knowledge and skills with the Civil Construction Technical Training Program.

The scale, complexity and breadth of road projects across Victoria is on the rise, with unprecedented investment in the State’s road infrastructure. For civil contractors, having the very latest technical knowledge and skills is vital.

Developed by Major Road Projects Victoria, within the Victorian Government’s Major Transport Infrastructure Authority, and in partnership with the North East Link Project, and the Victorian Department of Transport, along with industry, the Civil Construction Technical Training Program will help you build the key competencies your team needs to deliver major transport infrastructure projects for the Victorian government.

About the program

The Civil Construction Technical Training Program comprises a series of individual training modules. You can pick and choose modules that best meet your needs and the needs of the projects you are tendering for and/or delivering.

Each module is designed to reflect the current technical standards and specifications critical for the delivery of high-quality road and bridge construction on Victorian Government transport infrastructure projects.

Training modules will be progressively rolled out over the course of 2021, with new training modules coming online regularly.

For more information, including dates and costs for individual modules, please click on the + symbol next to the module names.

Please note that dates for some modules are yet to be finalised and will be updated at a further date.

  • An overview of drainage design
  • Various drainage systems and their use in road construction, including surface and sub-surface drainage
  • Water sensitive road design
  • Drainage construction practices including construction materials
  • Materials handling and installation
  • Maintenance requirements.

Course content is aligned to current Victorian drainage design and construction specifications and standards.

Learning objectives

At the completion of the training, participants will have consolidated their existing skills and knowledge of drainage design and construction, and will have gained a better understanding of:

  • The different types of drainage systems and their relationship to VicRoads standards
  • Water sensitive design principles and reference guides
  • Critical culvert construction parameters
  • The role of drainage in transport safety
  • Confidence in spotting and avoiding common construction issues
  • How and when to raise an issue or request clarification .

Course structure, costs and registration

This module is to be completed via an online interactive program delivered across two 2.5-hour sessions.  Course size is limited to 25 participants per course to ensure interactivity.

Attendance at both sessions is required to complete the module.
