Keeping Colac open for business
The 80-year-old Barongarook Creek bridge in Colac is being replaced so it can meet the demands of today’s traffic volumes and modern freight vehicles.
We've just completed the demolition of the old bridge and we're now putting foundations in place for the new one.
For this work to happen, we needed to construct a temporary bridge, so that when work started on the new bridge, traffic could continue moving on this busy stretch of road. This innovative solution has allowed us to keep Colac open for business.
As part of the new bridge, we’ll also be building dedicated walking and cycling paths.
The new bridge is a key part of the wider Princes Highway West project that’s building more than 35 km of extra lanes and new intersections.
