Construction kicks-off for O’Herns Road Stage 2
Construction has started on Stage 2 of the O’Herns Road Upgrade which will improve connections across Melbourne’s rapidly growing northern suburbs.
VEC Civil Engineering is delivering Stage 2 of the upgrade which will:
- add new lanes to O’Herns Road between the Hume Freeway and Redding Rise
- build three new intersections with traffic lights to enable better links between Cooper Street and O’Herns Road
- build brand-new on-and-off ramps to the Hume Freeway
- add extra lanes to the Hume Freeway between O’Herns Road and Cooper Street.
We’ve started setting up our construction support site near O’Herns Road, installed temporary fencing and safety barriers and started building the Galada Tamboore Pathway temporary cyclist and pedestrian detour path.
We’ve reduced O’Herns Road to one lane over the freeway, and we’ll temporarily close Cotters Road at O’Herns Road from early October until early 2020 so that we can safely carry out these works. We’ll also need to temporarily reduce speed limits in the area.
Stage 1 of the O’Herns Road Upgrade was completed in early 2019 with minor finishing works continuing until the end of the year.
The project is jointly funded by the Victorian and Australian governments.
