Getting on with upgrading Plenty Road
Drivers are another step closer to a new and improved Plenty Road as major construction ramps up over the next three months.
The second stage of the $178.6 million upgrade includes an extra lane in each direction to boost traffic capacity and new barriers to keep drivers safe. Upgrades are also being made to 12 intersections between Bush Boulevard and Bridge Inn Road.
Traffic has been reduced from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction between McArthurs Road and Riverdale Boulevard while works are carried out in the centre median. Traffic is now diverted along the southbound carriageway, before it’s moved over to the northbound carriageway to make way for construction works.
A second traffic switch is also scheduled for late November 2019 to late 2020 between Lakes Boulevard to McArthurs Road.
To improve safety and traffic flow, there will be a major blitz at the McDonalds Road intersection throughout January. We’re extending work hours to limit the impact on drivers while the median is constructed. There will be lane closures, reduced speed limits and major access changes.
Drivers and public transport users are being asked to plan and allow extra time during these critical works. Between Tuesday 3 December to the last train Sunday 15 December buses are also replacing trains on sections of the Mernda line while the High Street level crossing in Reservoir is removed.
