Next step of major work for Hoddle

7 February, 2019Streamlining Hoddle Street

More reliable journeys on Hoddle Street are moving closer as we ramp up works on the Punt Road/Swan Street intersection.

We’re temporarily closing Olympic Boulevard between Punt Road and AAMI Park from 11pm Thursday 7 February to 6am Tuesday 12 February.

This is so we can upgrade tram tracks and install a new, accessible tram stop.

The project will benefit all road users, with new turning lanes reducing the risk of crashes and pedestrian improvements making walking from Richmond train station to nearby landmark sporting venues safer.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and access local stadiums from the river end of Olympic Boulevard.

Detours around the site will be clearly marked and may add up to 60 minutes to your journey.

Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time. For the latest disruption information, see Victoria’s Big Build.

To prepare for this next stage of work, on 30 January, we removed right turns from Olympic Boulevard into Punt Road and temporarily banned turning right from Punt Road onto Swan Street.

These significant changes to Melbourne’s busiest intersection will provide more go time at green lights, improving traffic flow and reducing travel times on Hoddle Street and Punt Road.
