School students on the Bellarine Peninsula will be inspired every morning after playing a crucial role in the completion of the Drysdale Bypass pedestrian underpass, by choosing the series of inspirational words now etched into the wall.
The uplifting words cast into the walls, include “believe and achieve”, “dream”, “inspire”, “be yourself”, “smile”, and “be the difference”, and were chosen by students from St Thomas Primary School, St Ignatius College and Bellarine Secondary College.
It’s the final piece of the puzzle in the completion of the underpass, which links Drysdale with the education, arts and sporting precinct on Peninsula drive.
The 3 schools expressed gratitude in developing the piece of artwork, giving the students a greater sense of ownership of this important community asset.
The artwork design is the result of extensive community feedback, giving local school children a sense of ownership on this important and exciting project.
The $117 million Drysdale Bypass was opened to traffic in June 2020, stretching 6km from Jetty Road to the north of Whitcombes Road.
During construction more than 100 jobs were created and involved 335,000 working hours to complete the project.
The underpass is a welcome boost to safety for students entering the busy area and forms part of the 6 km shared walking and cycling path that has been built as part of the project.
