Woodlands Drive and Old Dandenong Road closed for bridge and intersection works

7 October, 2020Mordialloc Freeway

As part of the Mordialloc Freeway Project, we’re building an interchange at Lower Dandenong Road, Braeside. Once complete, the interchange will include entry and exit ramps, traffic signals and a widened section of Lower Dandenong Road and Woodlands Drive.

In response to community feedback we’re including a north-bound exit ramp onto Woodlands Drive. This new exit ramp means Woodland Drive will remain open once the Freeway is finished.

We’re also making good progress on building the first bridge for the freeway over Old Dandenong Road, which will allow the road to remain open for Dingley Village residents once the freeway is complete.

While we continue these works, there will be temporary closures of Woodlands Drive and Old Dandenong Road in November and December 2020.

Woodlands Drive closure

We’re closing Woodlands Drive at the intersection with Lower Dandenong Road from 6am Thursday 5 November to 7pm Wednesday 2 December.

During this time, we’ll complete 16 weeks of work in just 4 weeks, including:

  • widening Woodlands Drive to build the new lanes for the freeway interchange
  • installing drainage and laying new asphalt
  • starting work to build the freeway exit ramp onto Woodlands Drive
  • installing new traffic lights to be switched on once the freeway is complete.

Detours will be in place via Boundary and Mills roads or Boundary and Malcolm roads. Please allow up to an extra 10 minutes when planning your journey. Shops and businesses will be open while we work, and we’ll maintain access to properties via the detour routes.

The westbound bus stop on Lower Dandenong Road at Woodlands Drive will also be temporarily closed while we complete these works. The nearest alternative stop is located on Lower Dandenong Road at Redwood Drive approximately 170 metres to the west. Please visit ptv.vic.gov.au for more information and plan ahead.

Old Dandenong Road closure

We’re closing Old Dandenong Road between Boundary and Tootal roads from 7am Thursday 5 November to 6pm Monday 23 November 2020.

During this time, we’ll lift large beams into place for the new freeway bridge that passes over the road. We’ll also build the new road surface, drainage and kerbs on Old Dandenong Road, as well as start work to build the new shared use path through the area.

Detours will be in place via Centre Dandenong Road or Dingley Bypass. Please allow up to an extra 10 minutes when planning your journey.

Access for residents, local businesses and emergency services will be maintained. Please check your route as there may be a detour involved. There will be road signs in place and traffic controllers to safely guide you around the work area.
