Works temporarily stopped to keep Victorians safe

Back to Newsfeed

To keep our workers and the community safe, construction on some of Victoria’s Big Build projects will stop for 2 weeks until Tuesday 5 October.

Our projects in metropolitan Melbourne, City of Ballarat, City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire and Mitchell Shire will be closed along with the rest of industry, following the latest directions from the Chief Health Officer.

There will be some limited works on these construction sites while crews work to make the sites safe and maintain site security, but no new work will be completed.

Limited exemptions will enable workers to attend sites to respond to an emergency or perform urgent and essential work to protect health and safety.

Victoria’s Big Build is working closely with its building partners to comply with construction-related public health orders ready for when our works recommence. This includes implementing strict measures to minimise workforce close contacts, such as staggered shifts and industry consultation to implement COVIDSafe meal and rest-break arrangements for our workforce.

The industry shutdown is needed to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to provide the workforce with an opportunity to be single or double-dose vaccinated before returning to site on 5 October.

There are still some detours and changes in place that will affect how you travel.
