New lanes open on Tullamarine Freeway

3 July, 2018CityLink Tulla Widening

Drivers will experience shorter journeys between Melbourne Airport and the CBD, with newly opened lanes on the CityLink Tulla Widening project.

Travel times are now expected to be slashed by more than 13 minutes.

Once all the new lanes are open and the project is complete, round trips from the CBD to the airport are expected to be 30 minutes shorter.

Prior to the CityLink Tulla Widening project, traffic congestion saw motorists travelling at average speeds around 41 km/h. With the introduction of new lanes, average speeds have increased to 74 km/h.

Speed limits will be returned to 100 km/h permanently from Melrose Drive to Melbourne Airport when the project is complete.

Dynamic overhead speed signs will allow traffic controllers to raise and lower speed limits as required on the entire CityLink-Tullamarine corridor, including the remaining section between Bulla Road and Melrose Drive.
