Preserving local history as part of Yan Yean Road upgrade
A small, historic weatherboard church built nearly a century ago has been preserved and successfully relocated as part of the Yan Yean Road Upgrade in Plenty.
The former Uniting Church, which was constructed in 1925, has been moved around 700m from the corner of River Avenue and Yan Yean Road to Plenty Heritage Park, next to the Plenty Hall.
Major Road Projects Authority (MRPA) acquired the building in late 2017 as part of the first stage of the $131 million Yan Yean Road Upgrade and decided to preserve the building due to its significance to the local community.
The Yan Yean Road Upgrade is being delivered by the Major Road Projects Authority and is currently under construction. The upgrade is due to be finished by mid-2019.
