Swan Street update
We’re building a new twin-platform accessible tram stop and installing new kerbs on Swan Street in Richmond, resulting in safer, more reliable journeys for pedestrians, cyclists, public transport users and drivers.
To build the new stop we’ll be closing Swan Street to all traffic between Punt Road and Cremorne Street from 11pm, Sunday 19 May to 6am, Friday 24 May 2019.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow up to 50 minutes extra travel time to take the suggested detours.
Trams will continue to the last tram on Sunday 19 May and recommence for the first service on the morning of Friday 24 May.
If you're catching the route 70 tram to and from the city you’ll need to exit at Richmond Station or AAMI Park and cross Punt Road at the pedestrian crossing. To avoid these changes, you can also catch the train between Flinders Street and Richmond Station.
Once works are finished, the tram stop in front of Richmond Station will be removed and you will be able to use the new twin-platform tram stop with shelters, signalised pedestrian crossings, lighting and passenger information displays.
A temporary closure of Punt Road at the Swan Street intersection will also be required between 2am and 5am on Monday 20 May to allow specialist crews time to install new overhead tram lines.
Detour information, including alternate route maps are available on the Swan Street closure page.
The Streamlining Hoddle Street project is on track to be completed by late 2019.
