We’re planning for a future Bulla Bypass to provide a new connection between Sunbury and the northern suburbs of Melbourne and the Melbourne Airport to get you where you need to go sooner and safer.

Overview

The Victorian Government committed $6.5 million in the 2020-21 budget for the development of the proposed Bulla Bypass. An additional $13.5 million has been committed in the 2021-22 Victorian budget for securing planning and environmental approvals.

Planning for a bypass of the township of Bulla will look at ways to improve traffic flow and ease congestion in the northern suburbs, improve safety by removing heavy vehicles travelling through Bulla and improve amenity and liveability for Bulla and Sunbury residents.

The project will complement the Sunbury Road Upgrade between Bulla-Diggers Rest Road to Powlett Street in Sunbury, which will be delivered by 2025.

Current status

We will continue planning and investigations to develop the business case, which will inform the design, timing and cost to support the future construction of the project.

Our focus is to ensure the project provides the best outcomes for the community and the environment. We are currently reviewing the technical studies and designs developed by the Department of Transport and will build on these to develop the project.

Any future investigations will take into account any recent changes in the area, including the population changes in Sunbury, as well as changes to environmental and planning regulations.

We will make every effort during our project development and investigations to ensure our design minimises impacts on private land and sensitive environmental areas.

We’ll keep the community updated as we progress.
