The Victorian Government have committed funding in the 2021-22 budget to commence planning for improvements to the Bulla Road Interchange (Tullamarine Freeway) in the suburbs of Strathmore and Essendon North.

Planning will investigate solutions to improve traffic flow and travel times for road users travelling on, off and over the Tullamarine Freeway in Melbourne’s inner northern suburbs.

We are undertaking planning and development work to inform improvements to the Bulla Road Interchange. This includes traffic modelling, planning studies and environmental investigations.

This development work will allow us to understand environmental and social impacts, develop design options and confirm scope and costs of different options.

Timelines and milestones for the upgrade will be determined through this planning work and a Business Case is being developed for future funding consideration.

Works on the Bulla Road bridge

The Department of Transport are undertaking minor works at the Bulla Road bridge in mid-2021. This is not related to the investigations we are undertaking to develop the Tullamarine Freeway - Bulla Road Interchange Upgrade.
