We’ve added extra lanes to 24kms of the Tullamarine Freeway in each direction between the Bolte Bridge and Melbourne Airport.

Overview

Major works are complete and all lanes are open on the Tullamarine Freeway.

We’ve added extra lanes to 24kms of road in each direction. The new lanes now run from Power Street all the way through to Melbourne Airport.

The separation of traffic and upgrades to major interchanges has relieved much of the weaving, merging and congestion on the freeway.

The speed limit between Melrose Drive and Melbourne Airport has returned to 100km/h.

Whilst all major works are complete, there are still some minor works and maintenance happening that you’ll notice on the ramps and freeway, which we’ll complete by mid-2019. These minor works will include:

  • freeway ramp signals – data collection and activation (between Melbourne Airport and Bulla Road)
  • painting and landscaping.

We need to finish these activities to ensure the best possible outcome for motorists using the freeway. So while major works are complete, we may still need to close some lanes and ramps overnight between now and the middle of the year.
