Project legacy

As part of the project’s legacy, we’re building a new shared use path stretching a span of 10 km between Livestock Way and Manks Road. This path will create a new connection for people to walk and cycle between Pakenham South and Koo Wee Rup, creating easier access for businesses and the industrial area on Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road.

The new path will feature 2 new seated rest areas surrounded by native flora near Deep Creek and Ballarto Road. Along the path, informative signage will be installed with content relating to fauna that lives in the Koo Wee Rup area such as the Growling Grass Frog and Southern Brown Bandicoot. We will also include information regarding the Indigenous heritage of the land with content sourced from the Bunurong Land Council.

The purpose of the seating area is to strengthen the connection between people and their local community through the acknowledgement of the Bunurong culture and native flora and fauna in the area.

We aim to not only leave a legacy for the project, but to create better connections to the surrounding area and build a deeper understanding of the land on which the project is constructed.

Acting on your feedback

In late 2018, we heard from more than 220 community members and received over 180 responses about our proposed reference design for Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road Upgrade.

You told us how important it is to ensure the design:

  • improves safety for road users
  • improves traffic flow
  • minimises congestion
  • allows safe, easy access to local side roads
  • provides better walking and cycling facilities
  • protects and enhances habitat for bandicoots and other fauna in the area.

You told us safety for road users is the most important focus for the community.

It’s the most important focus for us too.

By adding extra lanes and new roundabouts, upgrading intersections, building new bridges and installing safety barriers, safety on Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road will be significantly improved for road users.
