We’re building the new Mordialloc Freeway to connect the Mornington Peninsula Freeway to the Dingley Bypass.
April construction update
March was a big month for the project and we reached a number of important milestones, including opening the pedestrian underpass at Braeside Park and installing bridge beams over Bowen Parkway.
In the past month, we’ve also installed:
- 45 of 140 beams for the twin bridges over the Waterways wetlands
- new drainage under the Mornington Peninsula Freeway
- the piles needed to support the bridges over Governor and Springvale roads.
What we’re doing
In April, we’ll:
- continue installing the remaining beams for the twin bridges over the Waterways wetlands
- continue building the supports for the bridge over Lower Dandenong Road
- install barriers and drainage on the bridge on Centre Dandenong Road
- build the bridge retaining wall on the south side of the Springvale Road.
We’ll carry out most of these works during the day, Monday to Friday between 7am and 7pm and on Saturdays between 7am and 3.30pm.
Some works may need to happen at night to minimise impacts on traffic and utility services, but we’ll let you know in advance of works outside our normal hours.
We’ll use trucks, cranes, excavators, piling rigs and other machinery to complete these works. You may experience some noise and vibration and be able to see machinery from time to time. We may also need to remove trees and vegetation where it’s unavoidable.
We’ll sometimes need to temporarily close lanes on local roads, reduce speed limits and detour pedestrian paths affected by our works.
We’ll have road signs and traffic controllers in place to guide you through the area.
We’ll do our best to minimise our construction impacts and will continue to monitor noise and vibration levels during the works.
Planning your journey
We’ll close Thames Promenade between Wells Road and River End Road overnight from Sunday 11 April until Wednesday 14 April between 9pm and 5am each night to lay asphalt and complete line marking.
The exit ramp from the Mornington Peninsula Freeway onto Thames Promenade will be closed while we work. Detours will be in place via River End, Mcmahens, Pillars and Springvale roads and via the Mornington Peninsula Freeway and Springvale and Wells roads.
We’ll maintain access for pedestrians and cyclists while we work.
We’ll also close Howard Road at Lower Dandenong Road from 7am Saturday 17 April until 6pm Friday 23 April to safely install new drainage, traffic lights and asphalt new lanes.
Before we begin work, we’ll need to temporarily close the bus stop at Howard Road on Lower Dandenong Road from Saturday 10 April. You’ll need to use the bus stop located 400 metres to the east at Sandleford Place on Lower Dandenong Road while we work.
We’ll also need to temporarily close the bus stops on Howard Road on Saturday 17 April and Sunday 18 April. We’ll reopen Howard Road to buses from Monday 19 April.
Howard Road will be closed to all other traffic from Lower Dandenong Road while we work. Detours will be in place via Boundary and Centre Dandenong roads.
There may be minor traffic delays while we complete the work so please allow extra time for your journey. Refer to map below.
