We’ve added traffic lights at the O’Herns Road and High Street intersection. As part of the next stage of the project, we’re building a new interchange at the Hume Freeway.
Current traffic impacts
Throughout May and June, we’ll be closing one lane on O’Herns Road so we can safely relocate gas services. We’ll also need to close lanes on the Hume Freeway between 8am and 3pm on some days so we can continue bridge piling works.
Following community feedback, we’ve worked closely with the City of Whittlesea to seal Cotters Road near Rockfield Street. We're improving the road surface and providing better connections for local residents until Cotters Road is fully upgraded as part of future developments. Cotters Road will remain closed at O’Herns Road until September 2020 while we continue to safely relocate underground services and build your new lanes on O’Herns Road.
Access to Cotters Road via Rockfield Street and Lyndarum Drive is still in place, and we'll have signage and traffic controllers in place to assist you.
Managing traffic impacts
We're committed to keeping you moving during construction.
The majority of our works will be performed during the day from Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm and on Saturdays, 7am to 3pm.
Some works may need to be undertaken at night to minimise impacts on traffic and utility services. If this needs to happen, we’ll let you know in advance.
Traffic management will be in place to guide roads users safely around our work zones. Our measures will include:
- installing signage and traffic devices to guide all road users through changed traffic conditions
- temporary lane and road closures
- temporary diversion of the Galada Tamboore shared walking and cycling path
- temporary diversion of road traffic
- reducing speed limits
- installing safety barriers to safely separate pedestrians, cyclists and drivers from our construction activities.
