Planning is progressing for potential improvements to Somerton Road to seek solutions to improve traffic flow and travel times for road users.
The Victorian Government has committed funding in the 2021-22 budget to commence planning for potential improvements to Somerton Road in Greenvale, to seek solutions to improve traffic flow and travel times for road users travelling throughout Melbourne’s northern suburbs and increase road network connectivity.
We’re investigating potential options to:
- upgrade 4km of Somerton Road between Mickleham Road and Roxburgh Park Drive
- improve key intersections along the road
- provide better cycling and walking paths in the area
- improve safety along the road.
We’re undertaking planning and development work to inform potential improvements to Somerton Road. This includes traffic modelling, planning studies and environmental investigations.
This work will allow us to understand environmental and social impacts, develop design options and confirm scope and costs of different options.
Timelines and milestones will be determined through this detailed planning work and a Business Case is being developed for future funding consideration.
