The level crossing near Merinda Park Station has gone and we’ve added extra lanes and traffic lights on Thompsons Road to improve safety and travel times.
Frankston-Dandenong Road intersection upgrade
The Frankston-Dandenong Road intersection is now closed for 5 weeks so we can fast-track works.
We’re working around the clock to:
- dig up and remove soil to make way for the wider intersection
- install new drainage
- remove the roundabout and level the ground for the new intersection layout
- build the new centre medians on each approach to the intersection
- lay new road surface through the intersection
- install the new permanent traffic lights.
Changes to Glasscocks Road
For safety reasons and to improve congestion to the wider network, the left lane from Frankston-Dandenong Road into Glasscocks Road will be closed until 5am on Monday 13 July. The narrow, unsealed road isn’t designed to carry heavy traffic.
The new intersection will be open from 13 July, four months earlier than planned.
All lanes will be open except the left slip lane from Thompsons Road into Frankston-Dandenong Road heading east towards EastLink.
From July through to September, we’ll:
- relocate and protect underground NBN and gas services in the south-east section of the intersection
- build the remaining slip lane
- finish landscaping.
Significant delays are expected, especially during peak travel periods. To reduce delays to your travel time, please plan ahead and avoid the area where possible.
Signed detours are in place to help you get where you need to be. Visit Victoria’s Big Build for the latest traffic and detour information.
The Route 901 Frankston to Melbourne Airport service and the Route 833 Frankston Station to Carrum Station via Carrum Downs service will continue to run, however there may be some delays. The 778 will also still continue and will just need to make a u-turn at Hall road to resume normal service.
Please visit the PTV website for the latest travel information.
We’re working day and night to have the new intersection open by 13 July.
As expected, there’ll be an increase in noise, dust and vibration, as well as lights from our work site at night. We’ll do our best to keep this to a minimum.
We’ve provided local access permits to all residents and businesses located inside the works. Only vehicles displaying the local access permit on their dashboard will be allowed to enter or exit the work area.
If you need have any concerns or need additional local access permits, please contact us on 1800 105 105.
