The level crossing near Merinda Park Station has gone and we’ve added extra lanes and traffic lights on Thompsons Road to improve safety and travel times.

19 May 2019

New lanes on Thompsons Road between South Gippsland Highway and Marriott Boulevard will open, including the two bridges near Merinda Park train station.

Ongoing Cranbourne Outfall Drainage works will mean that only two lanes will be available in each direction between Marriott Boulevard and Evans Road until the drainage works are complete in July 2019.

We’ll still require occasional lane closures to do some finishing works including laying the final asphalt surface, street lighting, concreting and landscaping until the end of 2019. The speed limit will remain at 60km/h on Thompsons Road between South Gippsland Highway and Marriott Boulevard and some shared walking and cycling paths will remain closed until we complete all the works.

2 June 2019

Completion of major construction activities

The new lanes on Thompsons Road between Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road will open. This completes the full stretch of 10.7km of new road on Thompsons Road between Dandenong-Frankston Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road. While this milestone marks the completion of all major construction, we’ll still need to do some finishing works. These will require occasional lane closures until the end of 2019.

July 2019

We’ll finish the Cranbourne Outfall Drain works underneath Thompsons Road near Merinda Park Boulevard. We’ll then open the third lane in each direction between Marriott Boulevard and Evans Road.

Mid-late 2019

Landscaping

We’ll commence spreading 16,000 cubic metres of recycled timber mulch and planting 449,000 new plants to landscape along the new Thompsons Road, improving and maintaining the flora, fauna and ecosystems.

Late 2019

Shared walking and cycling paths

We’ll open 10.7km of shared walking and cycling paths to provide better access to public facilities and transport hubs for the community across Carrum Downs, Cranbourne, Lyndhurst and Sandhurst.

Early-mid 2020

We’ll open new traffic lights at the intersection of Dandenong-Frankston Road and Thompsons Road to replace the roundabout and improve the major traffic issues experienced at this intersection.
