Current works

Dunnings Road and Palmers Road, Point Cook

In June and July, we’ll:

  • complete laying new asphalt on Palmers Road between Wallace Avenue and Overton Road
  • start to re-asphalt the old part of Palmers and Dunnings Roads
  • continue street lighting and traffic light works at intersections along Dunnings Road and Palmers Road
  • upgrade the Palmers Road and Wallace Avenue intersection with traffic lights
  • work on the new bridge deck and barriers at Skeleton Creek.

In August, we’ll:

  • complete laying new asphalt on Palmers and Dunnings Roads
  • switch traffic on to the new sections of Palmers and Dunnings Roads
  • complete landscaping and street lighting.

Why Dunnings and Palmers Roads?

More than 18,000 cars and trucks use Dunnings Road and Palmers Road every day.

If you live or work in the growing suburbs of Point Cook, Sanctuary Lakes or Featherbrook, these roads are important connectors for you to access the Princes Freeway, Williams Landing train station and Werribee town centre.

We understand that during peak periods, travel times along these roads can be delayed by up to 30 minutes and that there’s a lack of cycling and pedestrian facilities.

This upgrade will make traffic and public transport flow better, so you can get to where you need to be sooner and safer.

Project details

On Dunnings Road and Palmers Road, between Princes Freeway and Point Cook Road, we’re:

  • adding an extra traffic lane in each direction as well as a dedicated bus lane in each direction from Wallace Avenue to Dunnings Road
  • widening Skeleton Creek bridge
  • upgrading ten intersections
  • building walking and cycling paths.

Here's some interesting facts about this project.

Total road construction requirements:

  • material to be excavated: 10,000 cubic metres
  • fill to be imported (unusable material excavated on site): 26,000 cubic metres
  • stormwater pit and pipe needed: 3,650 metres
  • cement treated crushed rock: 8,500 tonne
  • foam bitumen (road stabiliser): 1,500 square metres
  • subsurface drains: 12,000 metres
  • kerb: 10,000 metres
  • asphalt: 130,000 square metres
  • service conduits: 27,000 metres
  • light poles: 84
  • guard rail: 2,150 metres.

Total bridge construction requirements:

  • general dimensions: 60 metres long, 15 metres wide
  • fill required for reinforced earth wall: 2,200 tonne
  • reinforced earth wall panels: 31 panels. Each panel weighs approx 2 tonne, 2 metres long and 2 metres wide
  • piles for the new bridge and barriers: 24 piles
  • volume of concrete needed: 2,000 cubic metres
  • steel reinforcement needed: 120 tonne.
