We're upgrading 8 main roads in Melbourne's west as well as improving and maintaining more than 260km of road from Footscray to Werribee.
What we're doing
Works are progressing on all eight-high priority road upgrades. Over half of the program of works to repave a further 37 roads have now been completed.
Works also include strengthening 7 structures and upgrading 57 intersections, building 3 overpass bridges for the Federation Trail and building more than 50km of new walking and cycling paths.
We are strengthening 7 structures across the western road network from early 2019 until 2021. This includes 5 bridges, an overpass and a culvert (a structure that allows water to flow under a road or railway). Stronger bridges mean more reliable journeys to carry more vehicles now and into the future.
Cyclists and pedestrians
The Western Roads Upgrade will transform the Federation Trail with three bridges to offer safer walking and cycling crossings over Leakes Road, Dohertys Road and Palmers Road/Sayers Roads.
People using the Federation Trail will enjoy seamless and safer journeys by avoiding these busy intersections. This will also allow traffic along these roads to flow more freely.
We're also building new shared user paths along the upgraded roads for the community to enjoy.
